Lake Bosomtwe Paradise Resort :: Abono Ghana Hotel Lodging Near Kumasi
Lake Bosomtwe, located in the south-central region of Ghana, is the country's largest and deepest natural lake. Formed by a meteor strike millions of years ago, the lake has a diameter of 10 kilometers and a maximum depth of 78m at its centre. Lake Bosomtwe is ringed by hills up to 400m high which are covered in lush vegetation. About 30 small villages dot the 30-km perimeter of the lake, many offering beautiful Ashanti crafts.
Lake Bosomtwe is sacred to the Ashanti people. Many believe that, after death, their souls come to the lake to say goodbye to their god Twi. Due to these beliefs, in the past, any form of dugout canoe was considered taboo on the lake. Still today, fishermen propel specially carved wooden planks through the water by paddling with their hands or with calabashes cupped in their hands.
