Situated some 35km south of Kumasi in a vast crater, Lake Bosomtwe is, at 28km sq., the largest natural body of fresh water in Ghana. It is also the deepest, reaching a depth of 80-100 metres, and rising, which has resulted in the submersion of several lakeshore villages within living memory. The lake is a beautiful spot, encircled by raggedly mountainous, thickly vegetated crater walls that reach an altitude of greater than 600 metres,providing opportunities for walking, birding, fishing and canoeing.
